Signs It's Time to Junk Your Old Car

When it come to making a decision about whether it’s time to get rid of an old car, several factors come into play. Let’s discuss some of the signs to look out for when it’s time to send the old car packing.

Sometimes, it isn't age that brings a car our way.

When costs of repairs higher than cost of a better replacement:When the bills start adding up and taking a toll on your paycheck, it's time to junk that old car. If the odometer shows over 140, 000 miles and you haven't replaced the transmission or engine, a breakdown of any of those two will deal a mighty blow on your bank account. Some of the other repairs may not cost as much, but when they start to multiply, they aren’t wallet-friendly. At this point, you can safely assume your car is living on borrowed time.

When you ‘just know’ it’s time for a new car
In some cases, it is possible to see junked cars are not completely beaten out of shape. For example if you don't like the car.Maybe your car has seen better years with you and it's quite old. You may be so fond of the car that the thought of "dumping" it for a new one feels a little like betrayal. Your old car may even be in good shape, and possibly nothing is broken at the moment. But, perhaps you've moved upwards economically and you need an upgrade after the long years of using your old car. When you consider all the circumstances, junking your old car may be the best thing to do.

The car has other issues.

If you had an accident, your car was in a fire, or old rust issues have started to compromise the integrity of the car.

The ‘Check Engine’ light won't  go off.

Sometimes your old car's check engine light never goes off.  Or, the light goes off when you fix a problem, only to come back on in short order for something else. The emissions testing facilities automatically fail a vehicle with the check engine light on, thereby forcing you into repairing it to pass inspection, and then repair it again, and again, and again...
